Carbon - ammonia adsorption systems were developed as long ago as the late 1980's but are still not commercialised. Examples of the technology built in Warwick and in other laboratories are discussed and their advantages and disadvantages compared. Three systems under construction are described. As ever, the key parameters that must be balanced are COP, specific cooling power and capital cost. New ideas that may improve the prospects for commercialisation are introduced.
