Abstract

Two-dimensional flexural ultrasonic phased arrays have been designed and fabricated for a gas flow meter to compensate for the sound beam drift effect. Inconsistent performances are found in the array elements, which can decrease the measurement accuracy when working as a phased array. The causes and the influence of the inconsistent performances are investigated. Methods for improving the consistency of performances are discussed. Deconvolution method is found effective for suppressing the influence of inconsistent performances. Combining deconvolution with matched filter improves the accuracy of measurement of time of arrival of ultrasonic signal, ensuring an enhancement of accuracy of the flow measurement based on flexural ultrasonic phased arrays.
