The dinuclear compound [(HgCl2)(2)(dibenzo-24-crown-8)] has been isolated as colourless, block crystals and structurally characterised by X-ray diffraction studies. The structure is centrosymmetric and consists of a core ClHg(mu-Cl)(2)HgCl unit entrapped within the ring cavity with each metal centre directly bonded to three of the crown oxygen atoms. Hg-Cl-terminal 2.306(4) Angstrom, Hg-Cl-bridging 2.326(4), 3.189(3) Angstrom and Hg-O-crown 2.640(9)- 2.772(8) Angstrom.
