Two disaccharides, alpha-D-Manp-(1-->2)-D-Manp 6 and alpha-D-Manp-(1-->3)-D-Manp 7, were synthesised from mannose using the reverse hydrolysis activity of the partially purified alpha-mannosidases from almond (Prunus amygdalus) meal and limpets (Patella vulgata). Both disaccharides were isolated by carbon-Celite chromatography. Attempts were also made towards the synthesis of core pentasaccharide using the purified alpha-mannosidase from Aspergillus niger.
