Abstract
In the Early Modern period, Borno sultanate’s court (Northern Nigeria) was a noteworthy cultural and intellectual Islamic centre. The writings of the 16th century imam Aḥmad b. Furṭū are an exceptional testimony of this literary activity and reveals the existence of a proper literary movement inspired by the maġāzī, or the narrations of Prophet Muhammad’s wars.
