Abstract

Ethnomethodology is a form of social inquiry that studies the largely implicit methods that members of social groups use to create and maintain the orderliness of social action. Ethnomethodology was developed by Harold Garfinkel, with the aim of examining the orderliness and organization of social action in specific situations and reveals methods of commonsense and practical reasoning. It has been a major influence on the development of conversation analysis and membership categorization analysis.
