Innovation is an essential part of manufacturing companies continual need to realign themselves to the dynamic environments in which they operate. The elements of this environment, whether customer needs or new technologies, give rise to the opportunities for companies to gain competitive advantage in their market places. Innovation, be it product or process, are the tangible and non-tangible elements that enable this to happen.
The main objective of the research is to see if there are practices that need to be present within companies internal cultures, environments and procedures that will encourage innovation to take place. These will be identified, prioritised and an attempt made to establish ifa "critical mass" of these is needed.
