In an accompanying paper, results of over 300 push tests, including 34 new ones, were considered in a study of design rules for the static shear resistance of stud connectors in profiled steel sheeting. Current rules were shown to be of limited scope and low accuracy, especially for studs placed off-centre in the steel troughs. Here, equations based on theoretical models are developed for the seven observed modes of failure. They are shown to predict the results of all 172 of the fully reported test results with a mean error of 2% and coefficient of variation of 10%, Simplified empirical design rules of similar accuracy, consistent with the current Eurocode 4, are also developed.
