Abstract

The autonomous van der Pol (vdP) equation has been reduced via standard methods to its first-order form and the corresponding equation for orthogonal trajectories, which is of Riccati type, has been solved by converting it to a second-order equation. The small time and asymptotic limits of this equation have been investigated. The explicit form of the orthogonal trajectories has been utilized to find implicit solutions of the vdP equation.
