The synthesis and structure of the title compound, C12H12O5, are described, The molecule is approximately fiat with the exception of the 5-methoxy group which is twisted at 70.1(3)degrees with respect to the aromatic ring, The molecules pack together with intermolecular hydrogen bonding between the O4 and O2(x, y, z-1) atoms.
