Abstract
This introduction seeks to draw together some themes that cut across different contributions to this volume. It focuses in particular on the kinds of explanations that have been given for the existence of psychological past/future asymmetries, the diversity of such asymmetries, conceptions of temporal neutrality and their normative status, and the role of the self in thinking about the past and the future, respectively.
