Abstract
We examine decision bias and perceived fairness with a focus on human-machine collaboration in an organizational context. We conduct a controlled economic experiment with a repeated-round design. We find that human DMs -- through increasing exposure with the AI -- learn to adapt to a biased algorithm: they implicitly detect the bias in the AI, adjust their behavior, and most importantly, outperform the biased AI working alone in terms of reducing decision bias and increasing organizational profit.
