Abstract

The opening of the spin gap in Hg 1201 samples of different doping has been investigated using O-17 NMR. For overdoped samples no gap is observed above T-c, whilst for lower doping a gap opens above RT but the behaviour appears to be qualitatively different from the bilayer compounds. There is a strong reduction in the susceptibility as the doping decreases below optimal.
