Abstract

Reaction of trimethylgallium with trifluoroacetamidine [H2NC(CF3)NH] resulted in an unusual elimination reaction, and yielded the air-stable volatile metallacycle [GaMe(2){HNC(CF3)NC(CF3)NH}] which shows a planar six-membered (GaNCNCN) ring; a related aluminium system. [AlMe(2){HNC(Ph)NC(Ph)NH}] was formed using benzamidine [H2NC(Ph)NH].
