Abstract

Rapid economic growth in China, accompanied by an 'open door' policy on the part of the regime, is presenting both Western and Asian nations with major investment and trading opportunities. However, China's size and political complexion as well as its current and likely future economic growth rate identify it also as a potential threat in the minds of many. The authors of this article first address the likelihood that China's economic expansion will continue, and then consider the perceived threats and the possible benefits of such development for the rest of the world.
