UNSPECIFIED (1993) AN INVESTIGATION OF THE CROSS-SECTION FOR MAGNETIC COMPTON-SCATTERING. JOURNAL OF THE PHYSICAL SOCIETY OF JAPAN, 62 (5). pp. 1716-1722. ISSN 0031-9015

Abstract

The existence of a term in the cross section for inelastic photon scattering of circularly polarised photons which is dependent on orbital magnetisation has been proposed and.supported by evidence, from one Compton scattering experiment carried out at 45 keV. The integrated intensity of the Compton scattering is studied as a function of the angle between the incident beam and the direction of magnetisation. Further measurements of a similar nature on the same samples, Fe, Co, HoFe2, which have produced negative results, are reported here. These latest results, which were obtained at two different synchrotron rings (the Daresbury Storage Ring and the KEK Accumulation Ring), throw doubt upon the importance of such effects in the Compton limit.
