Abstract
Tridecavanadate, a new and unexpected isopolyvanadate, forms immediately upon rapid acidification of aqueous vanadium(V) to pH ca. 1.5 and then decays over a period of 2 h at room temperature. V-51 and O-17 NMR show it to have either an alpha- or an epsilon-Keggin structure, with a central tetrahedral vanadium atom. It is probably protonated at each member of one set of bridging oxygens, giving the formula [H12V13O40]3-.
