New features of the helimagnetic to conical phase transition in holmium are reported. The 002 magnetic satellites exhibit an increase in their width and integrated intensities in the transition temperature range, their behaviour being different on cooling and warming. The corresponding nuclear peak remains constant. The magnetic measurements show a reduction of the magnetisation, and the elastic constant measurements indicate a double anomaly in the same temperature range. The neutron results seem to correspond to a purely magnetic reduction of extinction related to a complex phase transition. This phenomenon appears not to be associated with a decrease of the average size of the chirality domains, and further work is in progress to establish its origin.
