(2R)-2-Ethyl-2-methyl-4-phenyl-N-[(S)-1-phenylethyl]-(E)-3-butenamide, C21H25NO, M(r) = 307.4, orthorhombic, P2(1)2(1)2(1), a = 10.071 (7), b = 19.218 (15), c = 19.406 (14) angstrom, V = 3756 angstrom 3, Z = 8, D(x) = 1.09 g cm-3, Mo K-alpha radiation, lambda = 0.71069 angstrom, mu-(Mo K-alpha) = 0.6 cm-1, F(000) = 1328, T = 290 K, R = 0.063 for 1600 unique observed [I/sigma-(I) greater-than-or-equal-to 2.0] reflections. The two independent molecules show significant conformational differences, principally involving the (C = O)-C bond adjacent to the amide group. The molecules are linked into chains by N-H...O hydrogen bonds.
