Abstract

A non-contact method is described for ultrasonic testing of diffusion bonds in titanium, using pulsed laser generation and detection by an electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT). The EMAT geometry allowed the transducer system to detect reflected ultrasonic signals efficiently. Signal processing methods for the extraction of relevant information are described, based on the use of cepstral processing of received waveforms.
