Abstract

A unique chevron-like morphology of the hexagonal alpha phase has been observed in Ti 5Al 5Mo 5V 3Cr. The alpha precipitates were formed by direct ageing at 400 degrees C following solution treatment in the beta phase field. Chevrons were imaged using both backscattered and transmitted electrons and were found to have a complex internal structure. It is hypothesized that the microstructure is developed through multiple site nucleation from omega particles formed during air cooling, (C) 2008 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd.
