Abstract
We report on the ultrasonic measurement of crystallographic texture in cold rolled aluminium sheets of thicknesses ranging from 0.3mm to 3 mm. Evidence is found of deviation from presumed texture symmetries. Texture measurement were perfromed by measuring the velocity of S-0 mode Lamb waves as a function of angle to the rolling direction. Through thickness shear waves are used to obtain a measure of the homogencity of the twofold texture across a single sheet. Comparison is made with pole figures obtained from X-ray diffraction. The texture asymmetry was compared to the effects of applied tensile stress and asymmetric deformation.
