Abstract

An electron diffraction study performed on thin sections of Cax Sr1−x TiO3 ceramics with compositions x = 0.2 and 0.5 has revealed diffraction patterns that are inconsistent with currently accepted space group symmetries. Here, the data are presented and alternative models suggested. It is proposed that Cax Sr1−x TiO3 has the space group C2/m at x = 0.2 and the space group P21/m across the range 0.2 < x < 0.6. The sequence of phases across the solid solution is therefore proposed to be
P m3¯m ⇒ I 4/m cm ⇒ C2/m ⇒ P21/m ⇒ P nm a
x = 0 x < 0.2 x = 0.2 0.2 < x < 0.6 x > 0.6.
