Abstract
Zwei Pogrome werden untersucht, die am Ende des Ersten Weltkriegs und zu Beginn des deutsch-sowjetischen Krieges in Lemberg stattfanden. Im November 1918 stammten die Täter vorwiegend aus der polnischen, im Juli 1941 hauptsächlich aus der ukrainischen Bevölkerung. Die Pogromisten klagten die Juden jeweils an, sich zuvor feindlich verhalten zu haben. Während die polnische Regierung 1918 den Pogrom verurteilte, war der um vieles blutigere Pogrom von 1941 Teil des nationalsozialistischen Mordplans und bildete den Auftakt des Völkermords. / Two pogroms which took place in Lvov, one at the end of the First World War and one at the beginning of the German-Soviet War, are discussed here. In November 1918 the perpetrators were recruited in the main from the Polish population, and in July 1941 they were drawn mainly from the Ukrainian population. Common to both groups was the charge they levelled at the Jews of having previously acted in a hostile and antagonistic manner. While the Polish government condemned the pogrom in 1918, the later - and far bloodier - pogrom in 1941 formed part of the National Socialist programme of murder and was a prelude to genocide.
