Abstract

Previously in this section, we have looked at medical futility1 and refusal of treatment.2 This Five-Minute Focus deals with the related subject of euthanasia but will be confined to definitional and ethical aspects and will not cover the law in detail as it suffices to say that under current law, it is a criminal offence to cause a patient's death by actively intervening with the sole intention of killing the patient.
