Abstract
The article considers the relationship between the lost play Cardenio by William Shakespeare and John Fletcher, and the surviving eighteenth-century play Double Falsehood supposedly derived from it. The recent performance history of the play, particularly an amateur production in Southwark in 2010, is revealing. At stake are the ways in which we apportion creative agency when dealing with a revival of an adaptation of a lost collaborative play.
