Abstract
Fundamental mode of vortex ring instability is characterized by Tsai-Widnall vortex rings. The present vortex ring is emitted from a piston-driving nozzle and triangle-nozzle,
of which the piston speed and the piston stroke are varied. Separated layers by color in the vortex ring were measured using Color Particle Tracking Velocimetry. The result shows that three dimensional structure of the fundamental mode appears as acceleration of the vortex core.
