Abstract

Large companies pursuing their own interests interfere heavily in democratic processes. Which is a problem not only for democracy, but especially for the market.

There is a mystery to be solved: to explain the 'strange' non-death of neoliberalism. "At the heart of the enigma is the fact that the actually existing neoliberalism is less favorable than claims to be the freedom of markets. It, instead, promotes the dominance of giant firms in public life. The contrast between state and market, which in many societies seem to be the underlying theme of political conflict, hidden the existence of this third force, the other two most powerful and capable of modifying the operation. In the early twenty-first century politics, a trend already begun in the twentieth century and accentuated by the crisis, it is not centered on the clash between these three entities, but on a series of comfortable accommodations with each other. "
