Abstract
The workplace is an important social site for gender performances, and talk is one means through which individuals enact gendered roles, adopt gendered stances, and construct their gender identity in the process of interacting with others at work. Exploring this claim, this article identifies two important themes that have emerged from research on gendered interaction in the workplace. First, research on gender, discourse and leadership illustrates how gendered resources are used to construct an authoritative position at work. Second, studies of gender and workplace relationships provide evidence of gendered discourse patterns in the expression of interpersonal aspects of workplace talk. This article concludes that gender comprises an important and omni-relevant aspect of workplace talk.
