Abstract
Fig. 7b shows a comparison of fits given by data assimilation and by a standard least squares method. The authors wish to point out that the calculation of the least squares fit was inadvertently underdetermined and, in this example, it actually performs comparably to the assimilation method. The grey line in Fig. 7b should be neglected.
