Abstract

A new generation of research infrastructure is being developed and deployed, most notably under the rubric of e-Science but also as part of national public services
initiatives such as e-Health. While each domain has its own requirements, visions and problematics, the vision of transforming practice through the transparent sharing of
data and computational resources is common. We are involved in several e-Science projects which plan to use the Grid to share data, including NTRAC 1 , eDiaMoND
2 and Neurogrid 3 . Instead, in this talk, we seek to draw lessons from our earlier studies of data sharing within healthcare settings and consider what their implications might be for the realisation of e-Science’s ambitions.
