Abstract
The letters from Lorraine Radford and colleagues and from David Finkelhor and Lisa Jones illustrate the potential for selective reporting on the basis of data source or type of maltreatment. Previous publications have reviewed data sources for monitoring trends in violence,1 and, more specifically, child maltreatment2 over time. Each data source has limitations, which is why we obtained data from several data sources, collected in a similar way across six countries, and sought consistent trends across datasets to establish evidence of change over time.
