Abstract

By introducing categories or operators the concept or an associative H-space is generalized. Each such category gives rise to a structure on a space X if it can be made to act on it. To each category C of operators a category WC~ of operators is associated which gives rise to a C-structure up to higher homotopies and all possible coherence conditions. After introducing the notion or a structure map and or homotopies or structure maps the category of WC~ --spaces and homotopy classes or structure maps is set up and studied. The theory is applied to prove a classification theorem.
