Abstract
This study set out to explore the two hypotheses that students who attribute a high importance to religion in their lives adopt a less positive attitude toward religious education (because religious education teaches about all religions) and a less positive attitude toward religious diversity (because religious diversity threatens the position of their own religion). Data provided by a sample of 784 14- to 16-year-old students who participated in the REDCo project in England failed to support either hypothesis.
