Abstract
Young people are strongly affected by and threatened with unemployment. In order to fight this problem, most of the member states of the European Union are focusing on improving and expanding vocational training and the supporting measures of guidance and training. This publication documents the process and the results of a European Conference on ‘Transition from initial vocational training to stable employment’ which took place in Offenbach/Main on 28 and 29 June 1999. The Conference was promoted and realised by the Institut für berufliche Bildung, Arbeitsmarkt- und Sozialpolitik (Inbas) in Vienna, together with the European Network on Transitions in Youth. The initiative could also count on the support of the Federal Labour Office of Germany and of the European Commission.
