Abstract

The aim of this report is to provide a profile of international migrants in the East Midlands and their role in the regional labour market.

This report provides information and data analysis on the magnitude, characteristics and geographical distribution of people from outside the UK working and seeking work in the East Midlands. It also assesses associated impacts upon the East Midlands labour market and the non-migrant population.
The study is inspired by the recognition that international migration to the region (and the UK as a whole) has increased substantially recently and has important implications for the economy (and society). It is hoped that the information provided will be of benefit to the East
Midlands Development Agency (emda) and partner organisations concerned with regional policy development, especially with regard to employment, learning and skills and business support.
