Abstract
S-D logic considers tangible products as provisions of indirect service i.e. a bundle of competences that is a “distribution mechanism for service provision”. Yet, in the context of value creation, the issue of when and where such a distribution mechanism is acquired by the consumer has not been adequately investigated. The availability and the acquisition by consumers of such bundles of potential resources often occurs at markets (e.g. retail stores or online), whilst the co-creation of value often occurs in spatial locations post-acquisition (e.g. at home). The spatial and temporal gaps create friction and transaction costs, resulting in incomplete markets (Arrow, 1964; Debreu, 1959). S-D logic conceptualization of a “service for service” exchange often assumes a complete market – where every entity is able to engage in friction-free bilateral exchange of every service, directly or indirectly.
