Abstract
An increasing number of trusts are commissioning health visitors to deliver promotional interviewing as part of the Healthy Child Programme (HCP). This paper reports the results of the first study to examine the implementation of promotional interviewing in the UK since its inclusion in the HCP (Department of Health (DH), 2009). It was conducted in a highly innovative Early Implementer Site (EIS), in which promotional interviewing was implemented early and with all practising health visitors. A mixed-method evaluation was conducted to assess the level of implementation and stakeholder perceptions. A range of benefits, facilitators and barriers were identified, and the findings are discussed in terms of the implications for other trusts embarking on the introduction of promotional interviewing into health visiting practice.
