Abstract

A novel tunable frequency-selective surface (FSS) filter configuration that can simultaneously block both vertical and horizontal polarizations is proposed. It consists of dipole elements tuned by low-cost varactor diodes that are biased by multilayer grids. Single and series-pair diode implementations are presented. The filter's tunable performance is demonstrated numerically and experimentally at around 2.45 GHz. (C) 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
