Abstract

The world seemed a much simpler and optimistic place on that journey to Warwick University. England’s faithful fans believed they would win the European football championship, Brexit was still just a fantasy in the minds of Farage, Boris and co, and not a week went by when I wasn’t writing another story regarding the UK’s burgeoning battery industry.
Beginning of the future
So much had changed in the few weeks that passed since I interviewed members of Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) at their facility. As I wrote this article the UK was still reeling from the shock and disappointment of the UK voting ‘Leave’ and England’s woeful team of millionaires had been dumped out of the Euros (although our fellow UK countries are perhaps still celebrating this). But at least the ballast of the country’s battery industry was forging ahead unimpeded, for now at least; the affect Brexit has on the country’s research institutes in terms of grants and policy still remains to be seen.
