Near-wall turbulence structure is investigated by a vortex method simulation. The results presented show the evolution of hairpin vortices in the near-wall region and are in good agreement with experimental observations and previous numerical studies of this kind. They suggest that the hairpin vortices being generated coalesce to.-ether and induce complicated processes of vortex amalgamation, as well as breaking and reconnection. This complex process is ail additional mode of the growth in larger scale and highlights the role of hairpin vortices in the production of turbulence.
