Abstract

There are currently a limited number of systems that support distributed data collection, and amalgamation of multi-centre clinical trials data, at the point of data capture. The systems that do exist, however, are often disconnected from clinical care systems so baseline data for clinical trials has to be duplicated for the purposes of research, which risks being erroneous, inconsistent with existing data. This also means that the systems cannot take advantage of the data and outcomes past the end date of the trial itself. Here, we present the design considerations and implementation of a web-based data collection tool to support multi-centre trials in miscarriage research, Tommy’s Net, aimed at overcoming the security concerns and interoperability issues which hinder integration with clinical systems.
