Abstract
Some of our most recent developments using Electro Magnetic Acoustic Transducers (EMATs) to characterise rolled aluminium sheet metal samples are described. Over the past ten years we have made significant advances in the use of EMATs to the point where they are used in preference to conventional contacting piezoelectric probes for some specific industrial applications. We have used EMATs to measure the thickness of aluminium sheet with sub-micron accuracy, and developed a new type of Lamb wave EMAT system to measure the elastic anisotropy and crystallographic texture of the aluminium sheets.
