Abstract
Supply chains are complex networks in which decisions taken by one member firm may interact with many other members. These decisions often result from a firm wishing to recover from problems caused by poor delivery performance by one of their suppliers. In some cases the interactions are unexpected, in that they affect members of the network who are not obviously connected with the initial problem. Where these interactions occur in successive echelons in the supply chain we have called them 'serial' interactions. When they arise within the same echelon they are termed 'parallel' interactions.
