Abstract
A number of reasons have been put forward for the failure of business process reengineering (BPR) initiatives, and re-engineering the product introduction process (PIP) is a particularly complex task. A problem faced by an inexperienced team is the lack of easily available and comprehensive guidance. There are three types of literature, which provide assistance in different ways - the general methodology, the principles of re-engineering and process analysis tools. Little is directed at PIP, which has distinctive characteristics. In this paper we review the need for methodology, principles and tools, acid describe work on the development of an advisory system that combines all three aspects to assist PIP re-engineering.
