Abstract
Continuing professional development has become one focus for activity by many professional bodies in the UK as they introduce more complex, structured and obligatory CPD schemes. This paper explores the changing scene for professional engineers through an analysis of one professional institution's approach to CPD. Professional learning, often represented as an individual endeavour, can also be seen as one means of advancing the professional project and enhancing the status of a professional occupational group.
