Abstract
Contour maps of dielectric loss have been presented previously for an unstabilized commercial bisphenol-A polycarbonate both before and after exposure to ultraviolet (u.v.) radiation. The induced dielectric absorptions were discussed in terms of a sequence of photo-Fries reactions and subsequent photo-oxidation. Complementary data is now presented for the equivalent u.v.-stabilized grade and for an unirradiated sample of basic polycarbonate containing added phenyl salicylate as an aid to absorption identification. The dielectric data implies a particular mode of operation of the stabilizing additive. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Limited.
