Abstract
Expressions are proposed for the calculation of the ultrasound velocity temperature dependence, measured by the pulsed-echo overlap (PEO) technique in hexagonal magnetic single crystals. The comparison with the experimental data on holmium evidences the dominant influence of the K4 anisotropy constant on the measured temperature dependence and suggests that PEO technique is a possible monitor of the temperature dependence of this constant. The predicted phase transition temperatures for Ho-Er system are in good agreement with the magnetic structure - composition diagram.
