Abstract
High densities of faulted dislocation loops and stacking-fault tetrahedra have been observed in quenched copper and silver. In copper, the loops are polygonal with edges along <110> directions and vary in size up to 11 500 Aring. On annealing, these large loops develop many additional edges along <110> directions. In silver, many of the faulted loops are complex in that different portions of the same loop lie on different [111] planes. The loops in silver are very stable and do not anneal out until 635°c.
