Abstract
This book provides a unique protrait of the changing nature of entreprenurship over a thirty year period in a 'low' enterprise area. Using ata from interviews with over 900 entrepreneurs, it also compares and contracts new businesses in a 'low' enterprise area with areas with medium and high entreprenurship rates. By examining these spatial and temporal changes in the characteristics of new businesses, this book is able to emperically chart differences in new business strategy, performance, assistance, finance, and the characteristics of entrerenurs themselves. Written clearly with up-to-date literature reviews, this book is for those interested in regional economic development, the evolution of entrepreneurship, and bigger questions such as the limits and value of enterprise policy and the development of an 'enterprise culture'.
